Learning & Communities

Dundee Chamber Music has organised workshops with schools in Dundee and Angus since 2002. Information about past workshops can be found here. The workshops are an important opportunity to enthuse school age children in classical music. Meeting professional musicians shows the pupils the reward and real pleasure that can be obtained from playing an instrument, both privately and socially.

We work with schools in all of the communities of Dundee and 43% of our participants are from the most deprived areas in our city.

Support our Workshops

Please consider supporting our workshops through a donation by using the box in the sidebar of this page. Every donation, however small will enable us to continue to work with the talented musicians in our schools.

Workshops since 2023

These workshops are supported by, Leisure & Culture Dundee, Dundee Instrumental Music Service and by a legacy established by the parents of former Harris Academy music teacher, Steven Peters. Steven sadly passed away from cancer in 2018 and as an enthusiastic pianist and organist, he was passionate about fostering these skills in young people. In 2023-24 we received additional support from Chamber Music Scotland.

The emphasis for all workshops is on ensemble playing without a conductor with leadership passing between members of the ensemble. Participants work on music distributed before the events. The workshops have so far involved over 120 pupils from all eight Academies and six Primary Schools across Dundee.
